Bears Summer 1 Week 5
Date: 16th May 2024 @ 8:40am
In Literacy, Reception have been reading a book called ‘Through the Magic Mirror’. The book follows a boy who steps into a magic mirror and discovers an exciting and unusual world. In this alternate world the sky is painted by painters, dogs walk humans and choir boys sing in the sky. How very strange! The book was discussed at length and the children were encouraged to share their thoughts.
In Maths, the children have been revisiting work on subitising (recognising amounts without counting). We started the week by rolling a large dice. The Bears had to say the amount without counting. Dottie was particularly quick at recognising the numbers. Great work Dottie! The children also had fun playing the ‘Magic Cup Game’. For this, the children had to close their eyes whilst small amounts of practical objects were hidden under one of three cups. They were then muddled, and the children had to guess which cup had the hidden objects. As the cups were revealed the objects were tossed across the carpet showing different arrangements of a number. We had many magicians in the room following this lesson (haha). By the end of the week children were recognising unusual arrangements of number in ten frames. Bears what great work.
In other news all four of our butterflies made their way out of their chrysalises. We took them to a peaceful tree filled area at the top of the school and released them. Quite beautifully they all flew out of the net (one by one) and it was a great moment to show the final part of the life cycle.
Bears another magical week spent with you. Well done everyone.
