The Harmony Pledge

What is the Pledge?

As an Academy which is part of the Harmony Trust we make a pledge to support every one of our pupils to achieve their potential.

We want our pupils to be life-long learners so that they:

BELIEVE – ACHIEVE – SUCCEED

We pledge to provide a curriculum which will:

• Develop our pupils’ character, resilience and a range of social and emotional competencies

• Provide our pupils with academic excellence

• Support our pupils’ spiritual, moral, cultural and physical development

• Build our pupils’ confidence to have the highest expectation of themselves and their future

• Celebrate our pupils’ academic, creative and sporting achievements

• Instill in them a desire for learning which continues throughout their lives.

We want our pupils to have drive and tenacity; to stick at a task; to understand how to work towards long term goals; and be able to pick themselves up and bounce back from life’s challenges.

To develop this we work towards a 10-point pledge to all our pupils and their families.

1. Be Safe, Healthy and Happy - to take responsibility for their own safety, health and well-being.

2. Be a Fundraiser - to engage in fundraising and charitable events.

3. Be a Performer - to take part in a presentation, sporting event or performance to an audience or in a public place.

4. Be an Eco-Warrior - to contribute to environmental sustainability.

5. Be Respectful - to understand and learn from and about other cultures and faiths in our diverse community.

6. Be a Volunteer - to help others through volunteering activities.

7. Be Democratic - to be involved in a democratic process.

8. Be Adventurer - to experience educational visits/overnight residential trip.

9. Be an Expert Learner - to take an active role as a learner.

10. Be Work Wise - to understand the world of work and have high aspirations for their future.

Whilst the fine detail of the experiences the pupils in each academy will be involved in are for each academy to determine, to support the management of the delivery of this aspect of our curriculum all our pupils will complete a Harmony Pledge Booklet.

This is designed to support pupils with recording their experiences and making the link to the ten-point pledge and development of the following character traits:

Resilient, Problem-Solver, Compassionate, Cooperative, Aspirational, Confident, Effective Communicator, Motivated, Tolerant, Honest.
