Brilliant Bears Summer 2 Week 1
Date: 6th Jun 2024 @ 8:53am
What a fantastic first week back!
In Literacy, Reception have been reading a book called ‘Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion’. The book is a modern day take on the traditional tale of Little Red Riding Hood. In this story, the Hungry Lion hatches a plan to eat Little Red much like the Hungry Wolf in the old fashioned tale. What is different about this text however is Little Red will not suffer a fool and instead of running away, she gives the Lion a hair makeover and sets about cleaning his grubby teeth! The children enjoyed the story and were able to make many comparisons between the two books. Cienna remembered that Little Red even carried a basket like Little Red Riding Hood. Well done, Cienna!
In Maths, the children have been looking for patterns in number. We started the week by building a staircase out of building blocks. The children quickly spotted the pattern of adding one each time. Lots of them then went to build their own set of stairs in continuous provision. Later in the week, we had lots of successful tries at counting to 100 using an interactive square. The children were very proud of themselves and enjoyed being able to paint the squares as they said the number. Lots of patterns were identified including odd and even numbers, digits ending in five or zero etc.
Reception have really enjoyed crafting this week and have made some beautiful cards for Father’s Day or a special man in their life. I’m sure they will look forward to giving these to you!
Have a lovely weekend when it arrives everybody and a well-earned rest.
