Butterflies Summer 1 Week 5

Date: 16th May 2024 @ 8:46am

This week in Literacy, we have been exploring the story 'Through The Magic Mirror'. It is about a boy who walks through a magic mirror and discovers a very strange world! Well done to Etta for noticing lots of differences such as a rainbow against the wall and a dog walking a man!

We talked about different surfaces that we can see our reflection in. The Butterflies then went on a hunt around the garden to find their reflections. We found our reflection in saucepans, windows and puddles. Noah noticed that his reflection looked different in each surface. We discovered that as we moved further away from our reflection, it got smaller. As we moved closer to it, it got bigger.

In Maths, we have revisited subitising. We started off by rolling a large dice and said the amount without counting - Neriah was very quick at saying the amount - Well done! We then moved onto to playing the magic cup game. A child chose an amount of bears (up to 6) to put in a cup. They then threw these out onto the carpet to make an irregular arrangement of bears. The children had to say how many they saw without counting.

We finally released our class Butterflies. Some of us were lucky enough to hold them before they flew into the forest. We were sad to see them go but understood the importance of letting them free.
