Clever Koalas - Autumn 1 - Week 5
Date: 10th Oct 2024 @ 7:36pm
A HUGE congratulations to Riley for being awarded the Star of the Week this week. Riley has been working ever so hard in maths lessons to complete his work, including a challenge! He has been pushing himself to know more and remember more! Well done Riley!
Our Star writer this week is Thea a big well done for an excellent paragraph in English and working hard on joining your handwriting.
On Wednesday this week the Koalas completed their first class assembly of the year, all about the Shang Dynasty and our learning in History and English. The children were absolutely brilliant, with everyone reading clearly in front of the whole school – which is over 400 people!! Well done for being so confident Koalas!! Thank you to everyone who was able to attend this assembly, your continued support is much appreciated.
In Maths this week we have been learning how to use protractors! The Koalas have been following step by step guidance to ensure that they are measuring and drawing their angles accurately. Please ask your children what the difference between an acute, obtuse and reflex angle is.
In English we have started to write our narratives, ready to send to the BBC 500 words competition. The children have drafted their introductions and build ups so far! One introduction that really stood out was Cora’s! Please take to time to read it below – it really is fantastic including lots of features, we read it to Mrs Girling and her year 6 class as Mrs McIlroy and Mrs Dewsbury were so impressed!
Following alongside our learning about the Shang Dynasty in Topic we have been exploring a range of texts in Whole Class Reading. This week we have read, The Story of Nia, which shares how the Chinese New Year started and why the colour red and fireworks are so important in Chinese culture. The children have really enjoyed reading this story and made some fantastic predictions at the start of the week.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
