Clever Koalas - Autumn 2 - Week 4

Congratulations to Kingsseal for achieving Star of the Week this week! Kingsseal always puts 100% into all of his lessons and is always ready to learn. Well done for always trying your best!!

Our Star writer this week is Oliie a big well done for concentrating and working hard on your handwriting, see his published report below!

Oliie writing was chosen from our published reports which we completed earlier this week in English.  The Koalas have produced some very informative and interesting reports all about Space and our Solar System, well done to everyone for their great effort and enthusiasm in this topic. 

In Whole Class Reading this week we have focused on different images from space, including space dogs and a woman in space with an umbrella! The children have loved discussing these images and have enjoyed some hot seating, well done to Drake and Cora from that excellent improvising skills! 

We moved away from Science in our Topic lessons and began an Art project, the Koalas learnt all about Taotie – a gluttonous dragon-like creature from Chinese mythology, which is always hungry no matter how much it eats.  People of the Shang Dynasty would put images of Taotie on their masks and ritual vessels, the children enjoyed creating their own Taotie using clay! On Wednesday the clay Taoties were dry and the Koalas painted them using a range of metallic paints, they look FANTASTIC!!  

We have continued with our gymnastic topic in PE this week, moving onto counter balances.  The children got to choose a partner to work with and then practise a variety of different balances, using their body weigh to create a still balance.  The children thoroughly enjoyed this lesson and also enjoyed challenging themselves with some more tricky balances – everyone received a point from Mrs Dewsbury for their excellent balance and team work. A special mention to Logan, Mason, Rykie-Jai, Riley, Sienna and Julia for excellent perseverance with the difficult balances. Also thank you to Sienna, Katie and Steven for volunteering to work with me to show everyone the different balances! 

A reminder that it is our Year 5 Showcase on Thursday 5th December at 2.30pm in the hall, please come along to view your child’s work and also see their Taotie!
