Clever Koalas - Spring 1 - Week 4

Date: 31st Jan 2025 @ 8:29am

Firstly, a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Kate for achieving Star of the Week this week.   Kate has been working extremely hard in all lessons over the last couple of weeks, she is putting her hand up to participate in class discussions and ask questions when she is unsure of something.  Well done  Kate!!

Our Star Writer this week is Mason, he has been working hard to slow down when writing to help improve his handwriting! Well done on writing an excellent diary entry!

In Topic this week we have been being geographers and learning about the Earth’s land and the different crops grown around the world.  The Koalas have explored Atlases and a range of different climate zones – on Thursday this week they completed a tricky task when learning about North and South America – continents that have ALL of the climate zones.  The children worked in pairs to match areas in America to crops or animals raised there, this was a difficult task and some of the discussions had were fantastic! A special mention to Sienna, Caleb, Byron, Zaiden, Cora and Thea for their great team work!

In English this week we have completed writing up our diary entries, which all look fantastic.  We have also moved onto our next piece of writing – a newspaper report!  The Koalas are going to be writing a newspaper report all about a ploughing match that takes place in Farm Boy by Michael Morpurgo, we have been revisiting how to write direct and reported speech to help us with this.  Please listen to this song to help remember how to punctuate direct speech - direct speech song - Google Search

In Maths this week we ave been working hard on how to convert fractions so we are able to add and subtract them when they have different denominators!! There are lots of steps to this and everyone has been listening well and following instructions to ensure they reach the correct answer… well done!

We hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
