Summer 1 Week 1
Date: 18th Apr 2024 @ 8:47am
What a great first week back!
In Literacy, the Bears have been reading the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The children really enjoyed finding out about the life cycle of a caterpillar, exploring how it changes into a coccoon and then finally a butterfly. To add to the excitement about our new topic Sunshine and Sunflowers (and this week's book) we are now raising butterflies. The children are able to visit our Science investigation area and watch our five tiny (and very hairy) caterpillars take their first steps. The caterpillars live in a self contained pot with food on the bottom which they feed on and grow rapidly in size. The Bears will track their journey as they morph into cocoons and in a few weeks time we will set them free into the wild!
In Maths, we have been learning about doubles. The children started the week by practically making doubles with beanbags and sorting hoops. We also used our fingers to double numbers to five. Richard quickly realised we were holding up the same amount each time we doubled. Well done Richard! By the end of the week the children were having a go at some magic doubles by adding doubles to a doubling machine. If the doubles were added correctly the magic door opened. If it was an incorrect double (e.g both sides were given a different amounts of blocks) the machine broke!
An action packed week full of fun. Well done Reception!
