Doughnut Day
This was JLT’s first tuck shop this academic year, and they smashed it! JLT were great at collecting the correct amount of money and ensured that each child received the correct amount of change back if required. They also helped to guarantee all children were included by providing a variety of food items so all children could still enjoy a delicious treat. After counting the money, they had managed a profit of £50 which will be used to fund items for the school in the future.
Dementia Training
JLT were lucky enough to be provided with some Dementia Training from an NHS Dementia Nurse, Tony Longbone – Vicky from the URC’s husband. The session lasted for an hour and the children that attended were full of questions. Tony provided the children with an age appropriate overview of Dementia and by the end of the session, everyone helped to create a “Tony’s Top Tips” list to help others when approaching anyone with Dementia.
Tony’s Top Tips
-
Always introduce yourself with a smile.
-
Have patience. It may be the 8th time you’re asked a question, but to that person it’s the first.
-
Keep questions simple – Yes or No answers.
-
Remind them of close friends/family.
-
Have a laugh, tell silly jokes to encourage people to smile.
-
Consider playing music as this is often one of the last things people forget.
Summer Fayre
As we were approaching the end of the year, JLT were asked if they would like to help in one last school event. The Summer Fayre. Children were tasked with helping on stalls such as the busy Tombola and the very popular sweet and bike stalls. All members that helped were fantastic and we could not have done it without them!
Parental Showcase
After a fantastic year with JLT, we thought they deserve the time to showcase to their grown-ups everything they have achieved whilst being in the post of a Junior Leader. JLT presented all their achievements confidently and amazed their audience. To celebrate, JLT had a breakfast morning after their presentation to have some quality time with their grown-ups. Well done JLT we are so proud of everything you have accomplished this year!
Markeaton Park Treat
The time has come for us to say goodbye to this year's Junior Leadership Team and we honestly can’t thank each and every one of the children enough for their hard work and dedication this year. They have all been exemplary and we will miss them and their brilliant ideas so much. As a thank you from the JLT Team, we took our fantastic hard workers to Markeaton Park for a picnic, yummy ice-cream treats and an afternoon of fun! Thank you again JLT, you are the best!
