Talented T-Rex Autumn 2 Week 2
Date: 13th Nov 2024 @ 9:36am
Take a look at our learning this week🦖...
Topic
In Topic this week, we’ve continued our mini project "Our Wonderful World." This week, we focused on the United Kingdom. We learned all about the four countries that make up the UK: Wales, Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland. We even found out where their capital cities are – London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Belfast. We had a great time exploring maps and learning interesting facts.
The T-Rexes couldn’t help but giggle when Mrs. Pericleous described Wales as a “baby bump” sitting on the side of England! It made us all laugh and helped us remember where Wales is. We also spent some time thinking about different settlements and the features of cities, towns, and villages. We discussed what makes each place unique – like shops, houses, parks, and schools.
Maths
In Maths, we’ve been working on spotting missing numbers in our hundred squares. We’ve also been comparing numbers and practising how to find 1 more or 1 less than a given number.
Neriah was fantastic this week, using detailed reasoning to figure out missing numbers! For example, she said, “The number is 75 because it comes after 74 and before 76.” Brilliant work, Neriah! Well done to everyone who has been working so hard on their numbers – we’re all getting better at maths every day.
English
In English, we’ve started drafting ideas for a letter all about the 1950s! We’ve been thinking about how shopping, entertainment, and transport were different back then. The children came up with some great ideas, and we’re excited to write our letters next week.
It’s been a busy week outside of our regular lessons too! We kicked off Anti-Bullying Week with everyone wearing odd socks to celebrate our differences. It was so fun to see all the colourful and wacky socks around the class! Then, we took a moment to remember the brave people who fought for our country on Remembrance Day. And now, we’re finishing the week by raising money for Children in Need. What a fantastic and busy week it’s been!
We’ve all worked so hard and had lots of fun together. Well done, Year 1! Looking forward to another amazing week ahead!
