Talented T-Rex Spring 1 Week 1
Date: 8th Jan 2025 @ 6:09am
Take a look at our learning this week🦖...
Maths
In Maths this week we have been focusing on developing our number sense and understanding of patterns. We have been learning to count in 2s, 5s, and 10s, which are key skills for building solid arithmetic. To help with this, we have used concrete materials such as counters, beads, and blocks to physically demonstrate the counting patterns. Gracie-Mae was able to discuss these patterns in great detail-well done clever clogs!
English
In English, we’ve been working on making our sentences a little bit more exciting by adding adjectives! We’ve been using the book ‘Katie in London’ as a hook for our writing. It is full of fun descriptions of the sights and sounds of London, and the children have been inspired to come up with their own ideas for using adjectives. They've already come up with some fantastic ones, like “sparkling,” “grand,” and “busy,” to describe landmarks and places in the story.
Topic
In Topic, we have kicked off a new unit called ‘Bright Lights, Big City’, where we are diving into the world of cities and exploring all the amazing landmarks, especially in Derby and London. The children have been busy researching some of the famous landmarks in Derby, like the Derby Cathedral and the Silk Mill. It’s been great hearing their thoughts on what makes these places so special.
Finally, I want to give a HUGE thank you to all the families who got involved with our London Landmark project over the holidays. The children were asked to create models of famous London landmarks, and let me tell you, they’ve come up with some incredible things! From a Lego London Eye to 3D paper models and junk models with spinning parts. We even had the Cutty Sark – wow!
