Talented T-Rex Spring 1 Week 4

Date: 29th Jan 2025 @ 6:47pm

Take a look at our learning this week🦖...

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been learning about division. The children have been learning how to divide numbers into equal groups and explain their understanding. We’ve used sharing circles to help them visualize how to split objects into equal parts, making it easier to understand. T-Rex lass has also been working on finding half of a shape and half of a number. It’s been fantastic to see the children’s confidence grow as they work through different sharing problems, and they’ve really enjoyed applying their learning to different scenarios. Etta noticed that 26 couldn’t be shared equally among the five circles, with one leftover! Very true.

English

This week in English, we've been concentrating on writing instructions. The children have been practising how to create clear, step-by-step guides on how to make sandwiches. To tie in with our topic learning, we tried our hand at being tour guides, using instructional language to describe famous landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London.

Topic

In our Bright Lights, Big City topic, we’ve been comparing London to Kuala Lumpur. The children have looked at the size of the two cities, their landmarks, and their physical features. After several discussions, the class made many interesting comparisons between the two cities. Well done, Year One!

A huge thank you to the parents and carers who attended our one-off Tuesday phonics session this week! Your support is incredibly valuable in helping to foster enthusiasm for phonics, especially with the phonics check coming up later in the year.
